Back to Gaia Regulations and Transparency Policy

Article 1 – Purpose of the Project

The Back to Gaia project pursues cultural, ethical, and awareness-raising purposes and aims to:
1. promote a new vision of creativity and creative businesses based on collaborations between human beings and Nature, which is recognized as a co-author of human works;
2. affirm the principle by which Nature can be recognized as a symbolic holder of rights in creative works and economic projects inspired by it;
3. raise awareness of the need to give back to Nature part of the value generated whenever something is taken from it, even if intangible, such as an idea, inspiration, or creative concept;
4. lend practical support to organizations and projects committed to the protection of Nature, biodiversity, and ecosystems.

Article 2 – Membership in the Back to Gaia Movement

Joining the Back to Gaia project means accepting the movement’s values and principles.
The donor acknowledges that:
• Nature is an active part of the creative process;
• the co-authorship certification has symbolic, cultural, and ethical value;
• copyright ownership of the work remains with the human creator, without prejudice to the principles of recognition and collaboration promoted by the project;
• certification does not constitute official legal recognition of Nature’s legal personality, but rather represents an ethical, cultural, and symbolic acknowledgment.

Article 3 – Beneficiary Organizations

The beneficiary organizations are selected by Back to Gaia from among associations, organizations, or projects of proven and unquestionable transparency that operate to protect Nature, biodiversity, and ecosystems.
The beneficiary organizations approved to date:
• Resilient Bee Project, an initiative dedicated to the protection of wild bees: https://www.resilientbee.com/
• International Tree Foundation, an initiative dedicated to the protection of tree: https://www.internationaltreefoundation.org/

The donor can choose which of the two projects they want their donation to go to.

Article 4 – Participation and Evaluation Procedure

Back to Gaia evaluates the artwork or creative project submitted by the donor. To request an evaluation of an artwork, you may submit the work through the following link: https://www.backtogaia.org/get-certified/

Certification applies to a single artwork; any additional artwork will be subject to prior evaluation.

Back to Gaia reserves the right to:
• request additional information or documentation;
• accept or reject the proposal if it does not comply with the project criteria;
• refuse any artwork, project, donor, or initiative that is inconsistent with the ethical, environmental, cultural, or reputational values of Back to Gaia. The donation process can only proceed following a positive evaluation.

Article 5 – Donation Procedure and Transparency

Donations will be made to Back to Gaia by bank transfer or PayPal Back to Gaia

The minimum donation amount is as follows:
a) from individual donors (physical persons), EUR fifty (€50.00);
b) from all other donors (legal persons), EUR two hundred and fifty (€250.00)

Back to Gaia will retain 20% of each donated amount as a contribution towards its operating costs, a percentage that has been determined on the basis of its reasonable operating needs. It undertakes to carry out all its financial operations with the due amount of fairness and transparency, always maintaining its focus on its stated goal, which is to pay a royalty to Nature in exchange for Nature's contribution to its artists' creativity.
Back to Gaia will publish a summary report of the donations received, the amounts retained for management, and the royalties distributed to the selected projects on its website every six months. The first publication will take place on October 30, 2026, and from that date it will be updated every six months.
Back to Gaia will collect donations from contributors and transfer the total amounts collected, net of its operating costs as defined above, to the selected organizations on a quarterly basis.

Article 6 – Donor Commitments

The donor undertakes to:
1. indicate the artwork or series of artworks they wish to certify;
2. provide materials that enable Back to Gaia to promote the certified artwork, preferably photographs depicting the artwork together with the Back to Gaia certificate or badge;
3. indicate the species, living being, or natural element they wish to recognize as a symbolic co-author for certification purposes;
4. publish at least one post on their personal and/or professional social media channels, sharing the certificate received and declaring their affiliation with the Back to Gaia project by tagging backtogaia.copyright and using the hashtags #copyrightfornature #backtogaia.copyright
The donor authorizes Back to Gaia to use images, descriptions, and materials relating to the certified artwork for communication, promotional, educational, and institutional purposes connected to the project.
Any further form of sharing, promotion, or tagging of Back to Gaia and the selected project within social media posts will be gratefully welcomed and considered to be an integral part of spreading the message of Nature as co-author.

Article 7 – Back to Gaia Certification and Badge

Upon completion of the donation, the donor will receive:

• the Back to Gaia Certificate of Co-Authorship with Nature, or with the selected representative of Nature;
• the official Back to Gaia Badge, which may be used on the artwork, project, websites, and communication materials, or in any other appropriate context, in order to make the project’s message visible and shareable;
• inclusion in the Back to Gaia donors’ catalogue, which will be presented at every Back to Gaia conference and event, as well as through social media communications and on the Back to Gaia website;
• publication of the artwork through all Back to Gaia’s communication channels.

Back to Gaia reserves the right to revoke the use of the certificate and/or badge in the event of improper use, misleading communication, reputational risk, or conduct contrary to the values of the project.

Article 8 – Nature of the Contribution

The contribution made by the donor is to be understood to be a symbolic royalty, donation, and cultural contribution to Nature. No acknowledgement by a donor of Nature’s co-authorship (as evidenced by certification by Back to Gaia, the issuance of a badge or the payment of a donation to Back to Gaia) will operate to modify the donor’s intellectual property rights in the certified work.
It does not constitute a purchase of services, a membership fee, equity participation, or commercial license, unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.

Article 9 – Final Clauses

The donation and consequent acceptance of these regulations do not constitute membership in the organization or confer any right to participate in its governance. Back to Gaia may update these regulations in order to adapt them to new operational, legal, or strategic requirements, while guaranteeing transparency and proper information to Contributors.
The Contributor acknowledges that the donation made to B2G will be used in accordance with Article 2 and may neither be refunded to the contributor nor converted into any quota within the organization. In the event of the dissolution of B2G, any remaining funds will be transferred to another non-profit organization pursuing similar purposes, in accordance with the B2G statute. These regulations will be governed by Italian law.

Article 10 – Privacy and Data Processing

The personal data provided will be processed in compliance with applicable data protection legislation (GDPR and equivalent regulations) exclusively for purposes connected to the Back to Gaia project.
